We have been MIA for year due to some sever-side issues but we have returned. It has been a very mild winter here in the Northeast (pretty much a non-winter) so it will prove interesting to see what happens on our first week of monitoring.
Most of the site has been edited for this year's project but there are a few pages here and there that need my attention. Pay close attention to the registration process, that has changed for the project this year. You will see all of the information on our "Registration Page".
Thanks for your patience while I get things organized for the project!
Hi
Roadkill Fans!
Week #3 was fairly warm during the day but cold nights in southern NH.
The ponds and lakes still have a thin coat of ice and after
the rains scheduled for this week (March 30-April 6) I am sure
the smaller ponds will be free of ice. Once that happens the
beaver will be found dead on the roads in great numbers. The adult beavers
are getting ready for another litter and they will be kicking out their 2
year olds to fend for themselves. Mortality is high as these two year olds
are crossing roads (they too move very slow) to find another place to build
a lodge and to find a mate. So drive slow on the roads that are near
wetlands so you can avoid hitting the beaver and especially the ever slow
turtle.
Hi
Roadkill Fans!
Hope you are driving slower now that we are in Week #2 of
the RoadKill Project. The weather is improving and it is now above freezing
every day. Snow is disappearing but all the ponds and lakes in southern NH are still frozen over. You may see many skunks dead on the road as they are now starting to move to either mate or find food. They walk very slowly.
So drive a bit slower especially on the roads from 35-55mph. We will see
what the warm weather brings for roadkill counts next week. See you on the highways.
Sorry - I am very late getting to the site this year. It's been quite a winter here in the Northeast to say the least. I expect to get most of the editing of our site done later this week and into the weekend. Hopefully our snows will soon melt away to make room for the critters to begin their travels in search of food and mates.
Meanwhile, get yourself over to the Registration Page if you intend to participate this year.
Thanks for your patience while I get things organized for the project!
I have a lot of editing to do on the site over the next week but I will get things up and operational for the start of this year's project. Dr. Splatt has forwarded to me all of the various edits that are needed for this time around.
Meanwhile, get yourself over to the Registration Page if you intend to participate this year.

Sorry I fell behind schedule with the site this year but everything now should be up and operational. I will process all of the online registrations later today and those of you who have signed up can begin to input your data for Week #1.
We
have decided to move the operations over here to EduTel.Com.
Our EduTel.Org
server is getting old and tired and we wanted to be sure that the
project stays up 24/7 during the monitoring phase of our work.
Thanks
for your understanding and patience as we make the move to our new
home. We hope to have everything up and operational before the start
of our March 6, 2006 monitoring .... -paul

Hi
Roadkill Fans!
Week #2 is already here and winter has not let up on the snow and
cold temperatures in New England. NH schools are just starting the
project this week as we were on vacation on Week #1 monitoring.
Many New England schools were closed today due to the snowstorm
that started late Tuesday (March8) Winds were high and many people
lost electricity (including me) for the night. I think roadkill
counts will be very low this week as snow again is predicted Friday
and Saturday. Skunks are on the move and some of my students all
ready have seen live ones walking around in their backyards and
of course the "dead skunk" in the middle of the road. This is their
time to come out of their dens to forage for food as they have been
holed up most of the winter. Let's hope our unusual cold temperatures
fall by the wayside soon ... it is time for spring.
Hi
Roadkill Fans! We have started to make edits on the web site for the 2005
RoadKill project. This will take a week or so of work but we will soon be up and
running for this year's monitoring. If you haven't yet registered for the project
this year you should drop
by our online registration page and submit your information.
The
monitoring will begin on Monday, February 28, 2005. Information
regarding Username and Passwords for this year's database software will be sent
out via email to all who have registered for the project during the last year
as well as former participants. Keep an eye out in your email for that message
soon.
